#1 Your Hair

Wash your hair the morning of your date to remove excess oil and dirt and prevent an oily look. Apply a styling product before leaving for your desired look. But do not go overboard with product. Apply just enough to give adequate hold and still look natural.

#2 Your Face

When it comes to your face your normal grooming routine will suffice here such as face wash, exfoliation and moisturiser. If you really want to go all out apply a face mask the day before or the morning of your big date. A hydrating mask will help skin look fresh and clean while a clay mask will draw out impurities, both however will give your skin a fresh and clean look.

When it come to moisturisers your best bet is to use an energising or revitalising moisturiser. Ingredients such as taurine, caffeine or Vitamin C will brighten and wake up the skin. To give you that extra edge apply an eye cream to rid yourself of bags and dark circles.

#3 Facial Hair/ Shave

When it comes to facial hair options it’s best to go clean shaven. To avoid unsightly nicks, cuts and razor burn before your date ensure you properly exfoliate with warm water to open up pores and soften the hair. The use of a shaving brush will create a thick lather of shaving foam and lift the hair again limiting irritation. Follow up with an alcohol free moisturising balm to soften and soothe skin.

You may also want to to go with the stubble look. Numerous studies over the past few years have shown that heavy stubble is perceived to be more attractive. Also if you have jumped on the beard bandwagon be sure to trim and comb your beard to make it as neat as possible.

#4 Nose and Ears

Check to see if nose and ear hair is in check and not out of control. Trim any excess hair with an ear and nose trimmer. The last thing you want is your date seeing a forest protruding from your nose and ears.

#5 Mouth and Teeth

Toothbrush

It goes without saying that you must brush your teeth before heading out for your date. You should also go the extra mile and use a mouth wash to further freshen your breath. For added assurances throughout the night carry a pack of gum with you for after dinner.

#6 Hand and Nails

hands

When it comes to hand and nails above all ensure your nails are free of any dirt. If your nails are looking a little long give them a clip. Use a stainless steel pair of nails clippers to give an even and rounded edge to your nails.

#7 Cologne and Deodorant

Perfumes and Fragrances

Throughout this whole process at some point you will be hitting the showers. While in the shower rid yourself of body odour and sweat with a shower gel. If possible use a shower gel that couples well with you cologne and deodorant. After your shower it’s time to apply cologne and deodorant. When it comes to applying your signature scent, less is more. You don’t want to overpower your date with cologne even if it does smell great. A quick spray on your neck and both wrists is enough for your cologne. For deodorant one spray under each arm will suffice. Hide those nerves and the sweat that comes with them with an effective anti-perspiration deodorant.

This is all pretty straightforward stuff but with the pressure on and nerves taking their toll it can be easy to slip up and forget one of these all too important grooming steps. With this guide you can be sure to cover all your bases and look your best for your date. Once you have finished your pre-date grooming routine slip on your best threads and head out to your date confident you are looking your best.
