Joanna Halpin could be flaunting photos from her time on the beaches in Bali or gym snaps of all the very hard work she puts into sculpting her perfect abs, but the model from Cornwall, England, more often than not wants to show you her cats. (Models: They're just like us...except for all the jet-setting, photo shoots with elephants, zero percent body fat, and 252,000 Instagram followers.) Halpin comes armed with a set of Delevingne-ian eyebrows and Kylie-esque lips that make her hard to forget, plus a degree in graphic design that helps make her Instagram feed look damn good. Check her out below, on the blog she started with her sister Sarah, or every day at the top of your feed.
Where are you right now?
I'm at home in London (where I'm based) with my two kittens sitting on my lap catching up on Game of Thrones.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Cornwall (South-West England). It's so beautiful; green countryside, small towns and beaches. I don't really get to go back much and I miss it a lot, especially being so close to the ocean.
If you weren’t a model, what career would you pursue?
I studied graphic design at university, so I would probably have gone into a job related to that. Or when I was a teenager, I wanted to be a singer; this is very amusing for anyone that knows me well, as I am the worst singer ever.
What is your mantra? (If you don't have one, make one up. We'll wait.)
I'm not sure if this counts as a mantra, but I grew up with my dad saying, “Those who fail to plan, plan to fail,” and I guess it stuck, as now I'm extremely organized and once I have an idea or want to do something, I'm determined to make it happen.
What makes you feel sexy?
I find it hard to feel sexy when I don't feel comfortable or good about myself. So when I'm working out, eating well, and taking care of myself, I feel much more confident with how I look.
Where have you never been but want to go?
I really want to go to Japan. It's somewhere that I have wanted to go for years and years but haven't made it there yet. I just think, from what I have seen or read about it, it looks so beautiful and such an interesting place.
Do you read the comments?
Yes, I always read the comments on my social media. I am so grateful for all the support and lovely people that follow what I'm up to, so I try to make sure I reply to questions and read everything.
What is the craziest thing you’ve done on a shoot?
On a very recent job in Sri Lanka, I had to do a shot with a beautiful elephant called Madu. It was one of the most amazing and emotional things I've ever experienced.
How do you spend your time off?
If I'm in London, then I love spending my time off just being at home with my kittens and boyfriend. And wherever I am in the world, I always enjoy going out for coffee or food with friends. I have also recently started a blog with my sister (whatshesaidblog.com), so a lot of my spare time at the moment is going into that.
What is your most prized possession?
My kittens. I know I sound a bit like a crazy cat lady, as I've now mentioned them three times in this interview, but they are just so sweet and give me so much happiness.
